Thoughts on Fever Dreams from Hardline

Fever Dreams is a hard rock song performed by Hardline for their 2012 album, Danger Zone. The story, according to the lyrics, is either about a boy dying from a poisonous snake bite, or a man having his life turned upside-down with almost no way out.

Here are the links:

Some people say that this song has an 80’s rock feel to it, and some people say that it gives off a Bon Jovi sound. To tell you the truth, I agree with those statements. The things I like about Fever Dreams are the music, the melody and the lyrics.  For an 80’s sounding rock song, it’s very modern, catchy and upbeat. The only thing I don’t like is the music video because it tells me nothing about the song whatsoever.

All it shows us is a woman lying down, trapped behind a glass wall, while the band (Hardline) is singing and playing their instruments, in a factory covered with toilet paper. I wonder what the artists behind the music video were thinking at that time.

I never understood what the lyrics were about, until I watched a Sam Raimi horror movie about a woman and a cursed button. That movie gave me nightmares about being in Hell three nights in a row, and it was the main reason I couldn’t listen to Fever Dreams the same way again. However, that movie did give me an understanding of what the song was about.

Judging from the lyrics of the song, it tells a story about a boy wandering in the forest in the dead of night, only to end up being bitten by a snake. He starts to hallucinate, and somehow manages to get out of the forest. The poison is slowing him down and killing him, as he desperately begs the people to help him. They refuse, so the boy ends up dying. In my opinion, if the music video had played like that (while not being so graphic), the song would have made more sense.

But the song could be a metaphor for a man’s life being turned upside-down with almost no way out. Maybe his marriage broke down, he is having no luck with his life and he just doesn’t know what to do to get out of this lifestyle. So, in short, I like the song and the lyrics, but not the music video.
